My father in law nailed in some wood strips (aka paint stirring sticks acquired free from Lowes) to make a ledge for the plexiglass to sit on. I have to admit that those strips need to be adjusted a little bit since one side of the plexiglass sits just a wee bit lower than the desk top but I'm not going to squabble about a smidge.
I will say that if you have a sewing machine... and a desk... and you are thinking about buying a cabinet to level up your machine, just do it. Go for it. Grab a saw and cut yourself a big horking hole in your desk.... You won't regret it (unless you are as bad with power tools as I am.. so in that case, get someone else to do it for you, preferably someone who knows how to use power tools like my father in law...)
It uses the Quick Curve Ruler which I love although I would love it a heck of a lot more if she had it made by Creative Grids... I am totally hooked on my CG rulers and am in the process of replacing all of my other rulers.
I made progress yesterday. I needed 288 half square triangles. For those that have never tried the 8 at a time method, try it! It is sooooo much easier and faster and the end result is no bias edges.
I have a bunch more of the curved strips to piece up but I am getting closer to seeing this one finished. It will be the largest quilt I have made - about 100" squared and of course it is double sided.
I am planning to sew today and tomorrow so who knows... maybe I'll have all 64 blocks done and assembled by the time the kids go back to school on Tuesday... okay, that's a big dream. This quilt has been a huge time hog but I love it and am glad I'm doing it although I don't think I'd ever make this particular one again....
Anyhooo.. one Sewing Saturday a few months ago only two of us showed up which was great for me. I was a table hog. This picture shows me only using 6 tables for laying it out. I must have had a dozen tables in use at one time for awhile. Had the full crowd showed up there was no way I could have piggied all the tables like I did. It was great timing!
This quilt is also going to be for me... although my youngest has already seen it and is trying to claim rights to it. We'll see... It is coming out cool. I'll post more on that quilt some other time...
