Lotus Quilt Update

I just finished the Lotus quilt knockoff.  I'm about to spray baste it so it will be ready to quilt tomorrow... I'd love to quilt it this afternoon but I've only got about 2 hours before I need to start on dinner.  That's not enough time and I'd like to do this all in one sitting.

It ended up being 72x83.  Not too shabby for a big lap quilt. I think I know how I want to quilt it.  I'll give it a go.  Oddly enough I'm planning to use a lavender colored
thread to do the top stitching.  The backing is a mottled black so it's definitely getting black for the bobbin thread.

Here is the result of my cut the triangle in half attempt. I'm actually pretty cool with it.  I cut 20 1/2" x 1 1/2" strips of fabric and sewed them to the cut edge of the triangles.   I knew this was going to happen but was okay with it.  I just didn't want to make any more blocks and I didn't want to waste much fabric since I'm painfully short on these colors.  I might use the colors for the binding but haven't decided yet.  I might just break down and use some black.  I'll look at it when I get to that point...

Speaking of points... so if that is the bottom right of the quilt, want to know what the dead center looks like? It's actually really kind of cool.

This is the center left of the quilt.  Kind of neat how the triangle tips float in to the border, isn't it?  So worth doing it the cut the triangle in half and then add a border section to it method.  Quite cool indeed.  I might use this for the next one I make.  I do have at least 2 more quilts I want to make using this ruler.  Totally digging the ruler.. but still wishing it was made by Creative Grids.  Yes, I'm that much of a ruler snob.  I can't help it.  I like my non slip rulers.  This one is slippery for sure but worth it in the end.
